Television Control Device (1976)

This television control device was patented by Chris Michaels in 1976. It allowed you to change channels, adjust the volume, and more while sitting comfortably on the sofa. The patent explains that the rod is similar to a billiard cue, with a length that is “variable and adjustable,” and that it is “much less expensive than comparable electrical and electronic products, while being efficiently functional.” And it was certainly easier to find than a traditional remote control that had been misplaced.
