Do you like sending handwritten letters, but dislike the taste of the glue on envelopes and stamps? In 1981, Donald B. Poynter patented a solution: “A device for moistening adhesive coatings on stamps, envelopes, or similar articles.” The device features a plunger that “lifts the absorbent applicator from the liquid and moves the applicator through an opening in the side of the housing.” Of course, the function and appearance of this device complement each other: “The applicator may be shaped like a human tongue, while the closure may be shaped like human lips.” What a clever solution!
